Butterfly cancellation

A postmark used to cancel the first stamps of the Australian state of Victoria.

This cancellation consisted of a double concave lined device, which looked like a butterfly's wings. The post office numberal formed the head and the letter 'V' made the tail.

A term meaning 'town post' found on most Danish and Norwegian local postage stamps.
